Charities The Moles Support |
||
|
Every year The Brian Moles have several events; a chance for us all to meet up, have a laugh & raise money for charity (keep an eye on the Events pages here & on our WAP site http://thebrianmolesclub.mywap.o2.co.uk for upcoming events & reports from past events). The funds raised at each event will be split equally between three charities: The Mercury Phoenix Trust, Cancer Research UK & one other charity as nominated by our members. To find out more about the charities, click on the links to their websites below (all links open in a new window). The Mercury Phoenix Trust (MPT) , (permanent charity #1): This is a charity that was set up by the remaining members of rock group Queen after the tragic death of their lead singer, Freddie Mercury. Freddie died in November 1991 from an AIDS related illness, & the Mercury Phoenix Trust began & still continue to fund research into HIV/AIDS & its treatment, as well as supporting all manner of other organisations who may deal with the effects of the disease, such as orphanages, hospitals & sex education programs, amongst others. The MPT is a charity important to Jo, because she is a Queen fan & she has also seen how horrific the effects of AIDS can be. For more information, please visit the MPT website: Cancer Research UK (permanent charity #2): This charity is the largest independent funder for research into the disease in the UK. Supporting over 3,000 scientists, doctors & nurses nationwide, they are at the forefront of improving everything from diagnosis of the disease, to treatments & aftercare. Cancer Research UK is a significant charity to Jo, as several of her family members have died from various forms of cancer. Neil also chose to support this charity, as their research shows that 1 in 3 of us will develop cancer at some time in our lives. Therefore, even if we personally are lucky enough to never develop the disease, we will still benefit from the charity's work, as it is almost certain that someone we know will develop cancer. For more information, please visit the Cancer Research UK website: NSPCC (charity chosen by members): Information coming soon |
